Interview with Vegaz: Exploring the Rhythms of Sri Lanka's Electronic Music Scene

Updated: Aug 28

We are thrilled to welcome back Vegaz to Big Bells Records for another exciting release. Known for his deep connection to the Sri Lankan electronic music scene and his relentless pursuit of pushing musical boundaries, Vegaz returns with a mesmerizing remix of Adora's track "Rhythm Symphony." In this exclusive interview, Vegaz shares his inspiration behind the remix, discusses his journey within Sri Lanka's vibrant music landscape, and gives us a glimpse into his future projects.

(1) Welcome back Vegaz. We are happy to have you back on our label Big Bells Records with a new release from Adora, maybe you can tell us what inspired you to create a remix of Adora's song "Rhythm Symphony" for Big Bells Records?

First, thank you for having me on Big Bells Records for this interview. ADORA is a close friend and an incredible talent from Sri Lanka. Her track 'Rhythm Symphony' resonated with me on a deep level, and I wanted to remix it to showcase our shared love for intricate rhythms and melodic progressions. This remix allowed me to put my own spin on her beautiful creation.

(2) You've been very active in the Sri Lankan music scene, playing different events and releasing music on various labels. What are your goals for the future and how do you see yourself contributing to the growth of the electronic music scene in Sri Lanka?

Yes, I’ve signed with over 60+ music labels, including renowned ones like The Soundgarden, WARRP, and Mango Alley, to name a few. These collaborations have played a key role in establishing my presence in the Sri Lankan music scene. My goal is to continue delivering high-energy sets and contribute to the growth of the electronic music culture in Sri Lanka by pushing boundaries, nurturing local talent, and staying true to the sounds that inspire me.

(3) Can you tell us about any upcoming events or projects you're working on? What can your fans look forward to in the near future?

In September, I have two international gigs lined up—one in the Maldives and the other in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. I’m also thrilled to announce Hobin Rude’s debut in Sri Lanka, where I’ll be playing alongside him. Beyond that, there are several exciting local gigs on the horizon, so there’s plenty to look forward to!

(4) This question is probably very interesting for other young upcoming producers. What are your go-to tools and techniques for producing progressive house music? Are there any specific plugins or software that you can't live without?

My biggest advice is to keep pushing forward—keep sending your demos to labels and trust in your abilities. When it comes to production, focus on mastering the basics and don't overlook the wealth of knowledge available on YouTube. Watching production sessions there can be incredibly helpful. Consistency and learning from every opportunity are key to growing as a producer.
